Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, Rupal Ragha Founder of Big Brains Tuition used Instagram to help teach children around the world.

“Every Monday to Friday I would go online once or twice a day and ask students what they needed help with, then I would hold a live lesson on these topics. Children were able to make notes from the board and ask any questions they had. I tried to make it as close to a classroom experience as I could. I used Instagram because many families around the world do not have access to the technology needed to participate in online learning. However, Instagram can be used on any smartphone”

The ‘Instalessons’ soon grew to attract national and international press coverage appearing in many news and media outlets.

In March 2021 Rupal Ragha was awarded the prestigious Points of Light honour by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for providing free tutorials to children and families.

“I’m am truly honoured and humbled by this recognition and award from the Prime Minister. When lockdown began in March 2020 and schools closed, I felt a duty to keep education going. Instagram is easily accessible to anyone and I’m delighted that children and parents from around the world have been joining the live classes. I’ve connected with people from Brazil to New Zealand and I’m truly grateful for the experience. I hope to keep education going around the world for as long as I can. Thank you Prime Minister for this great honour.”
